Doug started at Palmaz as a teenager, working part-time on the bottling line under his mother, Tina Mitchell's, apprenticeship. He soon became lab enologist and continued to learn the ropes of the complete winemaking program. After a while, he rose to Assistant Winemaker, working alongside Tina on everything from vineyard checks to managing cellar schedules during harvest to assist in blending sessions.
After nearly 20 years of full Palmaz enology immersion, Doug has taken over as Head Winemaker with the 2025 harvest. Working generationally in the wine industry, he embraces innovation while still rooted in the rich tradition of winemaking in Napa Valley.
